Spell Toaster

Spell Toaster is a short puzzle game made for a game jam with the theme “Magic Gone Wrong”.

The game tells the story of Aisha, a magic student struggling to graduate. As a final chance, her teacher assigns her one last task: create a fireball. What the task doesn’t specify is how that fireball must be created.

Unable to properly cast the spell, Aisha turns to creativity instead. Set inside the school’s kitchen, the experience challenges the player to solve puzzles by interpreting magic literally, using unconventional and unexpected solutions rather than traditional spellcasting.

Through its puzzles, the game embraces humor and experimentation, playing with the idea that mistakes and failures can lead to clever outcomes. In the end, Spell Toaster reflects on problem-solving, creativity, and how “doing magic wrong” can still lead to success.

This game was developed in one week for the Certamente não é outra game jam (June 2020), organized by USPGameDev, Gamux, and FoG – Fellowship of the Game.
